Feeder NHs to China border to go from 5.5m to 10m wide
NEW DELHI: Now all national highways that act as feeder roads to the China border or are of strategic importance for national security would be 10 metres wide, the road transport and highways ministry has said.
The highways ministry modified its two-year-old circular limiting the width of such roads to 5.5 metre, which had become a bone of contention for the Chardham road widening project. The ministry, in a circular issued on Tuesday, said the earlier width standard does not address the issue concerning strategic roads. It said the standards prescribed have been further reviewed in light of the issues raised by the defence ministry.
The modified circular says, “For roads in hilly and mountainous terrain which act as feeder roads to the China border or are of strategic importance for national security, the carriageway width should be 7 metres with 1.5 metres paved shoulder on either side.”

During UPA roads were 5.5 mtrs in book. On the ground it was Zero. But the money spent was double.
Who is this Minority which was insisting on not widening the roads beyond 5.5 meters??
India definitely needs a robust political, military and development policy to counter any aggressive neighbour.
The minority members opposing road are chinese agent including the court. Court is not elected by people, the court should stop interfering in go nment decision
This a good step to ensure a better infrastructure for the defence forces.
think from strategic point of view. You need broader roads to switch your forces with heavy artillery guns, tanks mounted on tank transporters from one sector to another in a time bound manner for achieving surprise over the enemy. Please be supportive to the govt..
development is the GDP of the country, which is need of the time 4r India.Evry one praises, admire developed country & curse our own country

Good move , but needs the view of defense forces from security point view but faster transport and afe transport is always vital .
In emergency even this 10 meters road is not enough. It should be 15 to 20 meters wide where it is possible
It's not just the width. Follow the International standard of road building first. Make the standard mandatory all over India so that quality roads are developed. India is a laughing stock when foreigners look at our roads we drive on.
At last some sensible team is putting their heads to work. Prior to 2014 the heads wew working overtime how to loot the country
Members of the High Powered Committee (HPC) who opposed widening of feeder roads on China border must be named and exposed. Its a huge shame that traitors within the country shamelessly promote Chinese agenda and are not even revealed to the people!
Good, it was long due.

Himalayas are growing mountains. They cannot take load of such wide roads. Environmentally it is disaster. Manmohan Singh govt was first to declare it eco sensitive zone.
If China has still not understood .. that India of 2020 under Mr.Modi is different than 1961 .. then let it choose to learn it the hard way !

China making us spend money on its border areas which is important now but had china been peaceful this money could have been used for development of areas which do not receive enough rainfall for development of agriculture or places which do not have road connectivity,
Feku, aka Surrender Modi, must stop wasting taxpayers' money on the roads to middle of nowhere. There is no easy solution after Feku ignites border disputes with all our neighbours. Almost of them now nurse grudges.
This is what expected from this Govt. Repeal all age old rules.
Indian highways should not negotiate mountains and valley. Just drill tunnels through the mountains and build bridges over the valley. Should be able to reduce travelling time by 67%.
Chinese highways are all 33 meters wide (3 lanes either side with 1.5 meters paved road shoulder for emergency). It is high time India should build highways of similar standard.
